The Legacy of Freedom Retreat is a special program honoring local veterans through music and storytelling as part of the Blue Grass Federal Pumpkin Festival.
In partnership with Freedom Sings USA, Nashville songwriters will meet one-on-one with selected Veterans and transform their personal stories of service into original songs.
The community is invited to nominate veterans currently living in Paris-Bourbon County to be featured. This program is open to all Veterans regardless of role, branch, or combat experience every form of service matters.
Event Experience
On September 17, 2026, at 6p.m., Bourbon County Whiskey House will host an exclusive evening bringing together selected veterans, Nashville songwriters, and premier sponsors. During the event, each veteran will be paired with a songwriter to begin transforming their military service story into an original song. Guests will also enjoy acoustic performances by the songwriters, who will share songs they have written for Nashville artists and the stories behind them.
September 18, 2026 at 9am: Private story sharing sessions between Veterans and Nashville songwriters.
September 18, 2026 at 6pm: Legacy of Freedom hosted by Paris Elementary Schools. FREE admission for veterans with ticket; $50 general admission. Experience the first live performance of original songs written in honor of local veterans, along with a Military Museum display and other special tributes.
September 19, 2026: Free condensed presentation of the Legacy of Freedom songs at the Blue Grass Federal Pumpkin Festival. Please note this performance is an abbreviated version of the September 18 retreat experience.
This event celebrates and preserves the stories of those who have served, ensuring their legacy is honored through the power of music. Meals will be provided by Thyme Catering & Florals.

Nomination Terms & Conditions:
Veterans must currently reside in Paris-Bourbon County to be eligible for nomination.
All nominations will be reviewed by a selection committee, with identifying details "names" removed to focus on the veteran’s story and experience.
Veteran approval is required prior to nomination submission, as participation involves sharing personal experiences that may be difficult to revisit and requires attendance at all Legacy of Freedom events.
This is a unique opportunity to share a veteran’s story please take your time and include meaningful details that reflect their service and experiences.
