SAFF is a fiber festival with workshops, animal shows, contests, demonstrations and vendors.

About the application

Welcome Youth participants!  You must be 17 years old and younger by October 2026. 

The Fiber Arts Competition is a great opportunity to inspire others and show off your talent.  Everyone entering the competition receives recognition for their work and gains valuable feedback from the judges. Not to mention it is fun!  Encourage friends and family to enter!  All levels of expertise are welcome!

 

  1. Only ONE entry per category will be accepted.  No fee for Youth entries.
  2. Each entry must be made entirely by the entrant.  Handspun yarn used in any  category must be spun by the entrant. If not, enter in the commercial yarn        category.
  3. Work must have been completed since the last competition which was October 2025.
  4. Registered entries must be dropped off Thursday, October 22, 1 - 5pm or Friday, October 23, 9 -12pm – WNC Ag Center, Davis Arena. Your entry item may be submitted by mail but must be received by October 20, 2026.  Mail To: Robin Brooks, 99 Upper Moffitt Road, Asheville, NC 28805. 
  5. Judging will take place on Saturday morning. Entries must be left on display until pick up at 12pm Sunday, no exceptions.  
  6. SAFF is not responsible for entries, but the room will be supervised during SAFF hours and locked after closing. SAFF is not responsible for loss or damage.  Any items left after Sunday pickup will become the property of SAFF.
  7. If you want someone else to pick up your entry, please complete a release form when you drop off your entry.
  8. If you want your entry returned by mail, please include a self-address envelope/box with the correct postage. 
  9. Ribbons & prize money will be awarded. 

The SAFF Fibert Arts Competition Committee welcomes your suggestions, recommendations and constructive criticisms.  We strive to make this competition enjoyable and inspiring for all involved.

Y2         Knitted Item Using Handspun Yarn

Y3         Knitted Item Using Commercial Yarn

Y4         Crochet Item Using Handspun Yarn

Y5         Crochet Item Using Commercial Yarn

Y6         Woven Item Using Handspun (warp may be commercial yarn)

Y7         Woven Item Using Commercial Yarn

Y8         Needle Felted Item

Y9         Wet Felted Item

Y10       Wet Felted & Needle Felted Combination

Y11       Other Techniques - an item containing either:  two or more category techniques listed above; or a single technique not addressed in other categories
