BWASH and the City of Sugar Hill proudly present our 7th Annual Juneteenth Celebration! Join us for a day of community and culture featuring the Miss Juneteenth pageant, music, family games, and a scholarship award. Don’t miss out on local vendors, food trucks, and your chance to win Atlanta Gridiron Classic Georgia Bulldogs vs. Florida Gators tickets! This is a FREE event and we look forward to welcoming you on Saturday, June 20th from 4pm-9pm Juneteenth is a holiday commemorating the emancipation of the remaining enslaved African-Americans in Galveston, TX. It is also called Emancipation Day or Juneteenth Independence Day. The name “Juneteenth” references the date by combining the words “June” and “nineteenth,” as the traditional date, which is now a federal holiday in the United States, recognized on June 19th.

About the application

The Black Women's Association of Sugar Hill Scholarship Program was created to assist high school seniors who are members of the community pursuing higher education from an accredited academic institution.

The Black Women’s Association of Sugar Hill (BWASH) is a volunteer organization located in Gwinnett County, Georgia.  BWASH grew out of a need to provide support to women in need of cultural support and sisterhood.  Our organization has grown in its vision by actively serving the community and organizing community events  BWASH offers a scholarship to a deserving student wishing to further their education at a four-year college, community college, technical or trade school.

Eligibility Requirements:
1. Must  be a graduating high school senior from Buford, Lanier,  North Gwinnett, Seckinger or Mill Creek
2. Must have B average or above and demonstrate good citizenship
3. Must have an acceptance letter to a college, university or technical school
4. Must have at least 25 volunteer hours of community service approved by your school
5. Scholarship Recipient is required to be present at Juneteenth Celebration (6/20/2026) for award acceptance. 
6. Must submit: 
(A) Completed Application 
(B)  Academic Transcript  
(C) Two Recommendations (from teachers, ministers, employers, or community organizations)

 

Instructions: Submit completed application no later than Saturday, May 16, 2026  11:00 p.m. to be considered.  

 

Please note that a completed application consists of meeting ALL eligibility requirements listed above


Dates to Remember:

March 1st - Scholarship application released

May 16th - Scholarship application closes 11:59 p.m.  

May 30th - Scholarship Recipient will be notified

June 20th - Ceremonial and live checks will be presented to Scholarship Recipient at BWASH Juneteenth Celebration held on June 20th, 2026 4:00 p.m.
