Open Stage Variety Show Sangawa 2026
About the event
About the application
Sangawa Project's Variety Show will take place on Friday and Saturday nights (exact times TBD.)
Performances are to be kept at 5 minutes or less. Setup must take less than 1 minute. There will be no rehearsal.
Terms & Conditions
1 The Variety Show is open to all Sangawa attendees including staff and guests.
2 All performances must be relevant to anime, manga, or other aspects of nerd culture, whether through subject, costuming or music. Examples of performance types include dancing, singing, skits, poetry readings, playing instruments, and stand up comedy. This is not an exhaustive list.
3 All performances have a time limit of 5 minutes, with some additional time available upon request (pending reason and availability).
The time it takes for you to get on and off the stage does not count toward your time limit, but should take under one minute. Whatever comes on the stage with you must leave the stage with you. Confetti, silly string, and other “messy” props are prohibited. Your performance must also be limited to the stage area.
If you have an audio track or music, it must be edited to be within the time limit.
We will provide a stage, microphones, and a PC for music if needed. If you prefer to use your own computer and require an Apple hookup please request this in advance.
Please note that there is no rehearsal.
4 Sangawa is an 18+ event and as such, the material in the Variety Show may be catered to a more mature audience. Sexual references, swearing, and violence may be portrayed to an extent (think rated R, not rated X). Soapboxing, politics, hate speech/slurs, or references to sexual assault are prohibited. You will be required to submit a script of your performance for approval via email before the convention.
You may not engage the audience in a negative manner (for example, ‘roasting’ an attendee) or ask members of the audience to join you on stage without prior staff approval (for example, performing a magic trick).
For performances requiring combat or acrobatics we will ask for a video to guarantee it may be safely done in the space we have available.
5 Costumes must adhere to Sangawa Project’s rules and may not be entirely removed.
6 We cannot guarantee more than 2 microphones. We are unable to accommodate more than five performers on stage at a time.
