About the event

BEANS AND CORNBREAD Thousands will flock to the festival to enjoy the 2,000 lbs. of pinto beans stewing in giant cast iron cauldrons. The fest also features the Bean Fest Artisans Market on the Square that's filled with handmade crafts from around the state. GREAT ARKANSAS CHAMPIONSHIP OUTHOUSE RACES The ridiculous race showcases cleverly themed privies steered by drivers sitting on toilet seats. The "people powered potty" teams are racing for high stakes - the gold toilet seat award (and cash prize). MUSIC Music will be on the Courthouse Stage all weekend long. Don't forget to stop in the Pickin' Park to see both locals and pickers from out of town having mini jam sessions under the gazebos.

Terms & Conditions

Contest Rules

1.    Beans, water, stir paddles, and kettles will be furnished to each team.  Each team/contestant is responsible for furnishing flavoring and spices to his/her taste. 

2.    Contestants will cook the amount of beans assigned to his/her kettle.  No beans may be removed without Bean Committee approval. 

3.    Cooking area will open for participants at 6:45am.  Beans, water and Kettles will be ready at this time.  The Bean Fest Committee will begin lighting fires at approximately 7am. 

4.    Judging will begin at approximately 11:00am.  Awards will be announced after all judging has occurred and will be in conjunction with the decoration and other awards. 

5.    Entry fee for each kettle will be $50.00.  Prize money (1st) $150 (2nd) $100 (3rd) $75.  Best of show: Cooking Area $50 Costumes: $50

6.    Each contestant will be responsible for cleaning the area around his/her assigned bean pot at the end of the day’s activities. 

7.    Only three (3) cooks will be allowed in the roped off “cooking” area at any given time.  Participants will be issued badges that will allow them in the area.  No other family members, friends, relatives, long lost pals, or enemies will be allowed in the area and please no children under the age of 12 for their safety.  This is done to keep the area safe and spill free.  Failure to adhere to this rule may lead to disqualification from the Bean Cooking.  The Bean Committee has the final decision in this matter. 

8.    For sanitary reasons, cookers must use disposable spoons when tasking the beans during cooking, or they must sanitize the spoon between taskings.  additionally, use caution when smoking around beanpots, the ashes of your cigarette may drop into the beans.  (While this may not be unsanitary to smoke near the beans, it does look disgusting!) 

9.    Entrants my decorate the cooking area as you wish if it is not offensive & not too close to the burners for flammable reasons.  Prizes may be awarded for best decorated area.  Your decorations cannot interfere with safe travel in the area or extend past your cooking area. 

     10. This event is intended to be fun and entertaining.  Committee members  for the Bean Fest area are volunteers who do this for enjoyment and have no affiliation with anyone; therefore, they treat everyone equally alike and with respect.  In return, they should be shown the same respect.  Any abusive behavior on the cooker’s part during registration or cooking will not be tolerated.  Applicant will be disqualified from the competition and will be banned from future consideration from any Mountain View contests for three (3) years.
