About the event

Celebrating Katy Area’s history and longstanding cultural values, we will be providing family fun for everyone! The event will be focused around our Historic Town Square in front of Katy City Hall, and we are once again partnering with Rotary Club of Katy (“Katy Rotary”) as the beneficiary. We are also proud to announce that 100% of net proceeds go back into our Katy Community through opportunities like Scholarships, Non-Profit Organizations, and Charities. Octoberfest: Friday, October 13th from 6pm-10pm: Our free public event featuring live music, beer, food trucks, and we are bringing back the carnival! Katy Rice Festival: Saturday, October 14th 10am-10pm & Sunday, October 15th 12pm-6pm: Featuring arts & crafts vendors, an expanded kids/teen zone including the carnival, live international music entertainment, food trucks, beer garden, contests, and much more. Expecting to have 150 vendor booths and an attendance of over 15,000 people over the two-and-half day event we know you’ll find your new favorite shops to support, food trucks you haven’t tasted before, and even make new friends! There will be significant parking and free shuttle service to and from the Merrell Center during all hours of the festival.

About the application

The Katy Rice Harvest Festival is pleased to continue the tradition of the Rice Cooking Contest hosted by the City of Katy Fussell Senior Center!

 

All Entries are welcome with RICE as the primary ingredient.

Dishes Dropped Off: Between 5:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Juding Starts: 6:00 pm

Winners Announced: 7:00 pm

Rice Cooking Contest Rules and Regulations

 

Entry:

  1. The Rice Cooking Contest is open to all amateur chefs. No professional chefs, restaurant operators, dietitians, etc will be allowed entry.
  2. Contestants may enter one dish.
  3. Dishes must be prepared at home and brought to the Fussell Senior Center, at serving temperature, in an electric warming dish or slow cooker, labeled with participants name on the bottom side. No identifying information may be showing.  Recipes must be attached to the entry form, listing all ingredients, preparation, and cooking instructions.
  4. Dishes must arrive at the Fussell Senior Center between 5:00pm - 5:30pm.
  5. There is no registration fee for this event.

Recipe Requirements:

  1. All dishes must include RICE as the primary ingredient.  
  2. Each dish must include enough to feed approximately 30 people.
  3. Bowls, and utensils will be provided.

Judging:

  1. Judging will take place between 6:00 pm - 6:45 pm.
  2. 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and People's Choice winners will be announced at 7:00 pm.
  3. Dishes will be judged based on:
    1. Taste
    2. Texture
    3. Creativity
    4. Overall Impression
  4. Winners will be regonized after judging has been completed
