Description

Wolf Kahn was known as an abstract expressionist who painted landscapes that walked the line between realistic and abstract. His woodland landscapes used atypical colors and tall skinny trees on a background with different planes of color. Lets create a landscape like Wolf Khan on your 4 x 6 canvas board using oil pastels from your Crealdé Art To Go box. You can also watch a Crealdé artist, Anita Cohen, create an abstract landscape on the linked video. To begin, color in wide bands of horizontal color for the horizon line, mountains, valleys, lakes, etc. Fill the entire board and don’t be afraid to overlap. When you have covered the board use a paper towel wrapped around your finger to blend using horizontal strokes. Next ,select a contrasting color and make long vertical strokes for trees. You can select to put start them all on one plane or make some in the background or middle ground as you prefer. Use a second color to add dimension then blend using vertical strokes. You might like to add some branches near the tops of the trees. Wolf Kahn liked pine trees. What kind of trees do you like? Step back and observe. How does your woodland make you feel? Can you tell what season it is? Also in your Art To Go box is some model magic to create a marbled bear buddy to wander in your abstract forest. Check it out! Snap a picture of your finished buddy bear roaming the woodlands and share it on social media. Tag @crealdeschool and use the hashtags #CrealdeArtToGo and #Crealde

Crealdé School of Art

Crealdé School of Art is a nonprofit community arts organization located in Winter Park, Florida. Since 1975, Crealdé has provided community-based hands-on arts experiences to people throughout Central Florida. In 2007, through a partnership with the City of Winter Park, Crealdé opened the Hannibal Square Heritage Center to expand our capacity for fulfilling our mission of making the arts available to everyone. We offer over 125 visual arts classes and humanities-based programs at our two Winter Park locations, and we have branched out into the City of Winter Garden, offering classes at the Jessie Brock Community Center. Read more about our history and missions, become a member, attend a gallery event, take a class, and celebrate community arts with us all year long! Mission The Crealdé mission is to stimulate the creative process inherent in each individual through hands-on education in the visual arts and to cultivate a lifelong aesthetic appreciation. This mission is realized through comprehensive studio art instruction and interaction with professional working artists; presentation of gallery exhibitions and lectures; related art activities that stimulate art exploration and specialization including an extensive outreach program that services at-risk minority youth, individuals with disabilities and seniors; and fostering cultural diversity and understanding of pluralism and preservation of our cultural heritage.
