Taihu Scholar Stone

Taihu stone is a made up of a pourous Limestone formed at the foot of Dongting Mountain in Suzhou, China. Taihu Stone (Scholar stone): Taihu stone is made up of a pourous Limestone formed at the foot of Dongting Mountain in Suzhou, China. The reason for the crazy holes and shapes in it are a result of it being exposed to surging waters from Lake Tai (hence the name Taihu) constantly submerging the stones which eventually became saturated with water which eventually dissolved all the pits (or weak points inside the stone leaving only the strongest parts of the limestone in a type of skeletal shape. Lake Tai is one of three primary sources of the coveted Scholar stones in China popularized in the Tang dynasty. These stones are also said to have influenced the Korean and Japanese Suiseki appreciation. 4 important qualities for Scholar stones: Thinness, Openness, Perforations, Wrinkling The base it's mounted on is a skinny 6cm black granite on top of a more exotic earth tones granite. The wider bottom granite color can be interchanged for a different color or shape if desired.
