Freckled Illustrations was conceived out my desire to share what I love with others. I have been drawing since I can remember. I try to give visual meaning and interpretation to the most unlikely of subjects. Most of my work is grounded in topical issues of the day, e.g. bringing attention to wildlife concerns, while others efforts are more whimsical in nature. The term “Freckled”- is defined as “to mark or become marked with freckles or spots; to dot, dapple, marble, mottle, speckle, sprinkle; a spot of irregular shape showing up randomly and in various locations.” The title seemed to fit my wide ranging skill set and interests. And, Alison by the way, I have freckles myself!
A conceptual drawer at heart, I try to integrate a wide range of ideas and designs into my work, with a focus on detail, shading, and perspective. I attempt to convey both emotion and expressive energy in my pieces. I use graphite pencil, charcoal, watercolor, copics, in addition to other mediums. My work ranges from the very intense, (political, environmental, mental health) to purely fun and whimsical images. I am most fond of animals, with the "Tiny People" series depicting animals on the verge of extinction. All pieces have miniature people attached and hidden in and around them to “help keep the animals on the planet.” I do custom work, and recently illustrated a children's book.
I hope you enjoy my work as much as I do making it!
