Photograph description: This image from Lake Superior's north shore in Grand Marais, Minnesota, almost didn't happen. Before the sun broke the horizon, a thick fog completely blanketed the lake. The fog remained for several minutes after the sun rose while I patiently waited to see if the golden light would break through. The sand in my glass nearly ran out, and then the magic happened!
