I am a self taught figurative painter living in Elora, ON. The subject matter I paint from is varied, however recently my practice relies more and more on producing images based on memory rather than visual reference. In current painting practices I am exploring the themes of loss and impermanence. Working in emulsion paint, I combine elements of both figurative and abstract painting to represent the moment when natural environments and memory engage.
My work is in private collections in the US, Canada, Europe and Asia.
Ruth Lane is a self taught painter and recent finalist of the 2019 biennial SSNAP competition. Working full time from my studio in Elora, ON, I paint using a variety of mediums, including oils, emulsion paint, and tempura, where images that imagine a pared back and sustainable landscape are produced. In this body of work, I am exploring themes of loss and impermanence. Elements of colour, shape and space are used to construct landscapes containing an aspect of chance.
