Happy browsing! Or, if you are curious about how I ended up with a crochet business, please continue reading.
It all started in the 5th grade when I asked my classmate, Pamela, why she stayed inside during recess. She said, “I crochet.” I had NO idea what that was---so she taught me about the “art of crochet” using her own supplies. Once I got the “hook” of it, my mother bought my supplies. This newly-learned “art” ended my recess games of high jump, jacks, tether ball, and kickball. Since Pamela had taught me how to crochet a scarf, I made many, many scarves.
Then during college, I saw my neighbor, Alma, crocheting beautiful things. Unselfishly, Alma taught me how to comprehend the language of crochet patterns. Three evenings a week, I sat under her tutelage, mesmerized and amazed at the patterns available for EVERYTHING. Alma patiently explained how to read the symbols, terminology and abbreviations in the patterns. When I made a mistake, she had me pull out my work and re-do the stitches. Alma ingrained the standard for high-quality work that my customers enjoy today. Over time, crochet made me a hobbyist, investing in more books and higher-quality supplies to further develop my skills and techniques.
In 2009, with our gems—our children—away at college and adjusting to an empty nest, my hubby, Mr. B, suggested transitioning from a hobby to a business. For the next year, I built my inventory of clothing and accessories. THEN, the time came for my first event; I was soooooo scared I could hardly talk or sell. In fact, Mr. B not only accompanied me to my first seven shows, he did most of the talking and selling. After show #7, politely and lovingly yet firmly, Mr. B said, “Babe, this is your business. You have to do it.” So, I had no choice but to rise above my fear and do my business.
I now enjoy sharing my creative expression through crochet which is the perfect art for me.
