I always have been enamored with building things: farm equipment, cars, boats, houses,furniture, and artistic items. The creative part of me enjoys taking an idea, adding some sort of raw material, designing a project in my head, and then creating it. Wood turning allows me to do all those things and then some. When I see a piece of wood, hold it in my hand, turn it and study it, I start to imagine what it could be. But the surprise is yet to come. As a new color or image may start to develop and my vision begins to change as I turn deeper into the piece of wood. The final creation is often a complete surprise as nature is really the best artist of all.
