This one-of- a-kind, fused glass sgraffito drawing is created by manipulating multiple layers of colored crushed glass powders with business cards, rubber tools, and my fingers. The drawing is melted in a kiln at 1460F to melt the crushed glass onto a sheet glass base to make the drawing permanent. This piece is approx. 9”x 11” and framed in a 12”x15” frame. Alternatively, the piece can be mounted on an 11”x 14”, India ink stained poplar base, which would provide a small border.
Modern Ancient Glass is a one-woman studio by Kelly Crosser Alge, in operation since 1995. I create one of a kind glass powder sgraffito drawings, along with many other forms of glass art, including blown and cast glass sculpture, fused and lampworked jewelry, metal work, and public art.
I teach my sgraffito drawing process at studio workshops in the US and UK.
