2020 has been a year of great change. Spending almost all of my time in the studio gave my art a new direction. My obsession moved from portraits to nature. Nature became so much more motivating. The meadows and flowers I created allowed me to use different tools and different techniques. I loved painting portraits, but needed a new challenge.
I focused on the palette knife in my oil painting, becoming more abstract and in tune with the way colors play off of each other. The paintings begin with a light wash of color that is followed by a second layer that blocks in the background. The flowers and the landscapes, painted last, convey depth and movement and create interest and texture in the painting.
Chris Curry is a self taught artist that lives in Indio, California. Her professional career took off when she began selling her art at different art festivals in the Coachella Valley. Her art has been inspired by her travels throughout the Western United States, and her enjoyment of colors and light are aspects that she tries to implement in all of her paintings. She has recently switched to painting with a palette knife with oils and has found that her artwork has become much more abstract and free.
