The beauty of Shetland Sheep are all the varied natural colors that grows on their backs. This yarn is a rich deep grey the color of charcoal. Yarn is lofty smooth, silky soft, yet strong fingering weight yarn that is a beautiful example of what Shetland yarn can be. A wonderful choice for not only socks, but lace shawls and Fair Isle or stranded knitting. (See the Fair Isle Thistle Cape pattern for an example of this yarn in stranded knitting.)
This yarn was 5 years in the making, experimenting with mills, growing our flock to include several of the natural colors that Shetland is known for. Shetland wool developed through natural selection – is a combination of a cashmere like undercoating with soft-strong guard hair. This wool is unique in that it resists pilling and is a good wool choice for heirloom knitting.
