Good Morning Coachella!

For a long time I wanted a shot of the Coachella Valley at sunrise with Mount Jacinto prominently in it. I had planned it using Google Earth and Maps (and a weather app a few days before the shoot). I got up at 3:30am in Carlsbad to get there on time. The sunrise colors were perfect and I love the color gradient from cold to warm. In painting (the sky) and coloring (the rest) with oils I followed the colors from the original scene pretty closely. This is a limited edition piece, as I'm only doing 20 pieces at this size. This is number 1. The technique is from the early days of b&w photography also known as hand tinting. The photo was printed using black and gray inks only on canvas, which I hand colored with translucent oil paint. The sky was painted in with regular opaque oils. The canvas is stretched on bars and framed in a contemporary espresso colored floater frame. A textured gel coating is applied to the front. Wire on the back for easy hanging. A certificate of authenticity is attached to the back.
