Last Light
This collage was inspired by the end of a day in Gros Morne National Park Newfoundland, one of those beautifully serene days you wish would never end. The composition is a familiar one, gazing across the bay towards the rocky outer shoreline, as the last rays of sun create streaks and shimmers on every surface. It’s a scene that many of us have lingered over on a summer night, relishing the layered memories we will carry with us in the months to come. It may be the last light of this day but it holds the promise of the next one.
This paper collage piece is made from my own handprinted papers, layers of texture and colour create an impressionistic landscape.

About Barbara Buntin
I make paper collage art pieces in my studio in Cobourg ON, drawing inspiration from multiple sources. Just as collage is an assemblage of materials to form a unique composition, the layered influences on my creative life bring me to this point in my art making.
Working with my hand printed paper, I cut and move shapes around the piece until the elements create a pathway for the eye, a place for the imagination to dwell. The shapes, colours and movement in the materials seem animated while I construct the scene, resulting in compositions that echo human energy and interactions. Some compositions remain in abstract form, hinting at unseen forces in transition; while the landscape images reflect the memory and atmosphere of place rather than a descriptive representation.
I enjoy the opportunity to exhibit my work in Galleries and Art Shows both locally and in Toronto as well as welcoming visitors to my studio by appointment. The conversations that arise with the viewer are a sustaining part of the process of making art.
