I love trees and both their physical beauty and symbolic meaning inspire me. In my work I explore how trees mark time and embody qualities of perseverance and shelter. Driven by my mission to raise awareness of the benefits provided by both wild and urban trees I create radiant tree portraits that resemble historical photographic techniques such as daguerreotypes and ambrotypes. What do I mean by radiant? Think of light shimmering through a tree canopy or the glow of sunshine through a leaf. I emulate these qualities by combining my photographs with metal leaf. I describe my work as digital photography with a vintage twist because the gold, silver and copper metallic backgrounds shimmer and change according to the light conditions and lend the work an ephemeral quality. I photograph a wide variety of trees, newly planted, mature beauties both in the city and out in the country. If you have a favourite tree you'd like to commission a portrait of just contact me and we can make it happen.
