I work from my apartment near the Danforth and from a small studio at the Akin Collective . Now in my late 30’s, I have always expressed myself creatively---through dance, music, food (as baker and restaurant owner) and now, returning to painting.
I think the basis of art is the use of colour. I use colour to suggest mood, time, light and place. I paint mainly in acrylic, sometimes in oils or inks, on paper or canvas. My abstracts express mood (The Blues), scenes (Reflections), experience (Clubbing on King) and events (The Passover Series).
Lewis Parker, one of Canada’s eminent artists and illustrators said of Andrea’s work: “She’s good, she knows when to stop.”
Her colours are bold and confident. Her compositions feel spontaneous but are complex and layered. They draw you in to find another brush stroke or a dab of colour you have not seen before. Born with challenges which have not been allowed to define her, so Andrea’s work challenges the viewer to look beyond surfaces to see what is really inside.
Andrea’s works are now in collections in Baltimore, New York, St. Barths, Fredericton, Markham, Aurora, Thunder Bay, Port Credit, Toronto and Collingwood.
