At 1" diameter, this necklace is small enough to wear every day with a simple blouse or top; or, pair it with a little black dress or a flirty v-neck for a night out. Violet-blue iolite was possibly used by ancient mariners to help in navigation; it is pleochroic (meaning you see 3 distinct colors when you turn it different angles) and may have been used as a polarizing filter to find the sun on cloudy days. About the artist: Seattle jeweler Peggy Foy received a formal training in metalsmithing from the University of Georgia, graduating with a BFA in Jewelry/Metalwork. Drawn by the vibrant arts community (and the natural beauty and ethical sensibilities of the region), Peggy relocated to the Pacific Northwest in 2005, where she quickly became active in the Seattle jewelry community.
