Morning on the Barrens 2 The warm colours of the early morning sun flood the rocky expanse of a northern scene. Real, imagined, remembered. I find that if I can take time to stand and soak in the expanse and timelessness of a wild open space there is a process of unfolding. It seems as if the slow movement of rock over centuries becomes animated in my mind and the story of its history appears to be evolving in front of me. Perhaps it’s my grandmother’s voice as she used to wonder aloud at how the earth was formed in such wondrous ways. This paper collage piece is made from my own handprinted and batiked papers, layers of texture and colour create an impressionistic landscape.
