Brown and Yellow Leaf Serving Platter/Tray
Handbuilt, rectangular ceramic tray is made of stoneware clay. Sturdy and durable, the tray sits on four handcrafted feet. The surface design was created by using a wax resist leaf pattern and yellow soda glaze. The beautiful surface variation was the result of the tray being soda fired cone 10.
Soda Firing is a method of firing where a soda solution is sprayed into the kiln, creating a glaze that deposits on the clay pieces. The unique surface and coloring of soda fired pottery is achieved through a combination of choice of clay bodies, slips, glazes, and the atmospheric conditions in the kiln during the firing process.

I make functional pottery with the aim of bringing beauty and pleasure into a person’s daily life. My pottery usually starts on the wheel and is further embellished by hand. My objective is to have every piece I make reflect my aesthetic and the unpredictable nature of the soda firing process. My goal is to create work that honors and continues the long tradition of handmade pottery.
