Inhabits open plains & brush in Australia, Feeds chiefly upon roots, fruits, and herbage. Lays its eggs, which are dark green & about 10cm long, in a scooped out hole in the ground. Incubation takes almost 2 months. Attaining, height of 1.8 m The wings of the emu are mere rudiments hidden beneath the coarse, hair-like feathers of the body. The plumage is dull brown, darker on the head, neck, & mid-back.
