Description

E407. Riveted Lithograph Tin Doll House & Silvertone Ring Teardrop Earrings. I made these earrings by cutting teardrop shapes from the wall of a damaged lithograph tin doll house & doming it, riveting a copper eyelet, & adding a silvertone ring from a broken necklace. Lithography is a printing method from the 1790s; during the early/mid-20th century, it was used to produce brightly colored tin for toys, TV trays, lunch boxes, containers, doll houses, etc. I especially like using tin from doll houses, as it's printed on both sides. The earrings measure 1.75” from the base of the earring wires, which are nickle free silvertone.

Pauline's Jewelry Box

My jewelry reflects my passion for antiquing & recycling. I love working with early plastics (e.g., bakelite), found objects (e.g., vintage pinback buttons, lithograph tin, old bottle tops, transit tokens, electrical resisters, etc.), broken vintage jewelry & charms, metal (especially copper), & gemstone beads to create something fun & interesting to wear. I use a variety of techniques in my work, including cold connections, texturing, soldering, riveting, wire-wrapping, enameling, & forming. I take jewelry classes at the Des Moines Art Center, & enjoy learning & experimenting with new techniques. Each piece of jewelry I design is unique, & comes with a story that describes the history of the materials used &/or the message/meaning of the work.
