Description

The wild horses of Shannon County, Missouri are my favorite subjects to photograph. This mare, from the Shawnee herd, stood on a rise above me in the early morning fog. This photo is printed on a gallery wrap canvas and is backed, so no raw edges show. This is available for order, as well. 16"x20" - $115 24"x30" - $175 24"x36" - $200

Holly Ross Photography and Art

Holly is a Missouri-based, self-taught photographer who specializes in photographing the wild horses found roaming the Ozark foothills near Eminence, Missouri. Her images of the horses have been shared by the Wild Horse Photography Collective, featured on KMOX News Radio's website, and have received awards and honors through the Jefferson County Photography Club, the SEEN 9, 10, 11 competitions, The Confluence of Expression photo exhibition, the Mississippi River Shootout, and has shown in Framations Art Gallery, MindScape Gallery, StoneSoup Gallery, and The Soulard Art Gallery. She is also an instructor with the Academy of Nature and Wildlife Arts, based in St. Louis, MO and Best of Missouri Hands juried member. Her photos have been described as having an "eclectic mixture of soft, near water color effects on florals - almost Japanese in delicacy and Zen-like in simplicity - contrasted with sharp, clean linear architectural images." A client described the photos as "visual poetry... emotions captured in ink and moments caught as if time could be glued to paper." Yet another stated that he could "smell the horses, in a good way" and felt he could reach out and touch them. Holly's intent is to capture more intimate scapes, providing the viewer a small glimpse into the world she's captured, allowing the viewer to place themselves within, and imagine the balance of, the scene in front of them. As the saying goes, there are always two subjects in any photo: the one in front of the camera and the one behind the camera. With her images of the horses, especially, Holly beautifully illustrates that concept.
