N458. Liberty V Loan Pinback Button Riveted on Copper & Aluminum Necklace. I made this necklace with a vintage Liberty Loan pinback button. The US sold 4 Liberty Loan war bonds to support the Allied cause during WWI; & issued a final Victory Loan after the 11-11-18 Armistice. Pinback buttons showed the wearer's patriotism & generosity. I bezel-set the pin on copper I'd textured with vintage lace, then riveted to aluminum. I cut a “V” out of the back to match the button's V. The length is adjustable at 19.75”, 21.25”, & 22.5”, with a small peace sign at back; the pendant measures 1.5” x 1.25”.

My jewelry reflects my passion for antiquing & recycling. I love working with early plastics (e.g., bakelite), found objects (e.g., vintage pinback buttons, lithograph tin, old bottle tops, transit tokens, electrical resisters, etc.), broken vintage jewelry & charms, metal (especially copper), & gemstone beads to create something fun & interesting to wear. I use a variety of techniques in my work, including cold connections, texturing, soldering, riveting, wire-wrapping, enameling, & forming. I take jewelry classes at the Des Moines Art Center, & enjoy learning & experimenting with new techniques. Each piece of jewelry I design is unique, & comes with a story that describes the history of the materials used &/or the message/meaning of the work.
