Description

N436. Fabricated Sterling Silver & Red Bakelite Fur Clip Necklace. I fabricated the pendant for this necklace by prong-setting a vintage Bakelite fur clip that had the back broken off onto sterling silver that I patinated with liver of sulfur. The chain is silvertone rope, with a Bakelite bead at the back. The necklace length is adjustable at 18.25”, 19.25”, & 20.25” around; the pendant measures 3.5” x 1.5”.

Pauline's Jewelry Box

My jewelry reflects my passion for antiquing & recycling. I love working with early plastics (e.g., bakelite), found objects (e.g., vintage pinback buttons, lithograph tin, old bottle tops, transit tokens, electrical resisters, etc.), broken vintage jewelry & charms, metal (especially copper), & gemstone beads to create something fun & interesting to wear. I use a variety of techniques in my work, including cold connections, texturing, soldering, riveting, wire-wrapping, enameling, & forming. I take jewelry classes at the Des Moines Art Center, & enjoy learning & experimenting with new techniques. Each piece of jewelry I design is unique, & comes with a story that describes the history of the materials used &/or the message/meaning of the work.
