N503. Brass Bat, Lava, Rainbow Obsidian, Blackstone, Brass Necklace. The pendant for this necklace comes from a pin with a broken pin-back For the chain, I used several different gemstone beads (rainbow obsidian, lava, & blackstone), as well as new-old-stock (NOS) & other brass beads & links from a broken vintage necklace. At the back, I added a fly charm to complement the bat pendant! The chain length is adjustable at 19” to 22.5”; the pendant measures 2.75” by 1.25”.

My jewelry reflects my passion for antiquing & recycling. I love working with early plastics (e.g., bakelite), found objects (e.g., vintage pinback buttons, lithograph tin, old bottle tops, transit tokens, electrical resisters, etc.), broken vintage jewelry & charms, metal (especially copper), & gemstone beads to create something fun & interesting to wear. I use a variety of techniques in my work, including cold connections, texturing, soldering, riveting, wire-wrapping, enameling, & forming. I take jewelry classes at the Des Moines Art Center, & enjoy learning & experimenting with new techniques. Each piece of jewelry I design is unique, & comes with a story that describes the history of the materials used &/or the message/meaning of the work.
