B329. Multi-Color Mic-key Mouse Charm & Bead Bracelet. I made this charm bracelet with multi-colored vintage Cracker Jack/gumball charms (including a celluloid charm from the 1930s/1940s & styrene charms from the 1950s/1960s) & multi-colored beads. I added copper stamped with MIC, KEY, MOUSE, reminiscent of the Mickey Mouse Club song. Mickey Mouse was created by Walt Disney & Ub Twerks at the Walt Disney Studios in 1928; & officially debuted in the short film, Steamboat Willie, one of the first sound cartoons. The chain is silver-tone curb, & measures 8.75”, but can be worn shorter.

My jewelry reflects my passion for antiquing & recycling. I love working with early plastics (e.g., bakelite), found objects (e.g., vintage pinback buttons, lithograph tin, old bottle tops, transit tokens, electrical resisters, etc.), broken vintage jewelry & charms, metal (especially copper), & gemstone beads to create something fun & interesting to wear. I use a variety of techniques in my work, including cold connections, texturing, soldering, riveting, wire-wrapping, enameling, & forming. I take jewelry classes at the Des Moines Art Center, & enjoy learning & experimenting with new techniques. Each piece of jewelry I design is unique, & comes with a story that describes the history of the materials used &/or the message/meaning of the work.
