Description
Bloodroot is a tiny ephemeral wildflower, which can most often be spotted in the leaf litter at the edge of a forest. This is a striking little picture due to the sharp contrast between the white of the flower petals and the lovely piece of walnut burl in the background. If you look carefully at the pieces making up the center of the flower you will see that I was able to find pieces of veneer that have a gradation from light to dark, which I used to create a more three dimensional look to the pieces. I especially like the grain and shading on the central piece.

Jane Burke makes framed marquetry pictures using wood veneers of different species and colors to create lovely representations of nature, people and whatever takes her fancy. No two pictures are identical as wood grain has infinite variability and no two pieces of wood are the same. The pieces are sealed with either lacquer or a hand rubbed oil and wax finish. Pictures are framed, ready to be hung. Jane also accepts commissions, making pictures to specific sizes and colors according to the customer's preferences.
