Description
I love all the different species of wood I use in this piece as each one has such lovely character. Her skirt is quilted maple and looks like the folds in fabric. Her boots are the sapwood of poplar, just where it transitions to the green heartwood, which makes her boots look more three dimensional. The walnut burl background adds depth and interest behind her and I simply love the richness of the deep red pommell mahogany in the mat.
Lacquer finish.

Jane Burke makes framed marquetry pictures using wood veneers of different species and colors to create lovely representations of nature, people and whatever takes her fancy. No two pictures are identical as wood grain has infinite variability and no two pieces of wood are the same. The pieces are sealed with either lacquer or a hand rubbed oil and wax finish. Pictures are framed, ready to be hung. Jane also accepts commissions, making pictures to specific sizes and colors according to the customer's preferences.
