message
These shifts are longer than other roles – 5 to 6 hours – and these volunteers are expected to attend a pre-event prep training and orientation meeting. This role oversees volunteer traffic and ensures that coverage is provided where it’s needed. Volunteers in this role are also expected to raise a flag if someone hasn’t checked in for their shift 15 minutes before the shift begins so we can obtain coverage.
At the start and end of each volunteer’s shift, they are expected and invited to stop by the volunteer coordination center to check in, relax, and pick up their volunteer shirt. The volunteer coordinator will ensure the refreshment table is stocked with food and drinks – especially water! This area is typically highly trafficked throughout the day of the event. This role assists in dispatching volunteers to understaffed areas and keeping “shift changes” running smoothly.
Volunteer Coordinators should be high energy, organized, and friendly. They’re the faces of our volunteer staff which represents 200-300 people! They should also be dedicated. If a few volunteers no-show, we can readjust; if a volunteer coordinator no-shows, it throws a huge wrench in the day. We need you!

| General Volunteer | Jun 27, 2026 7:00 am - 11:00 am | 3 | 4 | |
|
message
This “job” is the general filler! You might help with setup by carrying small totes to the areas where they need to be, or you might help by going through the festival in the afternoon to empty the trash. You might help by carrying water to volunteers at the stage or family area, or you might help by adding decorations to the stage as we are setting up. If you’re flexible and willing to be sent where you’re needed just then, this is the job for you!
Some examples of things you might be asked to help with:
Set Up: Without you all, there is no festival! You will be helping with the overall set up of the event. Linda will need five volunteers to assist with directing traffic for our vendors, and getting their areas set up first thing in the morning. Others will be given direction for setting up the stage area, bar area, as well as the pop-up tents by the entrances/exits. Please be readily available to help with anything that needs done!
Floaters: Thank you for indicating that you’re happy to help anywhere! You will begin your shift at the volunteer tent, where you will help the volunteer coordinators with anything the festival needs. You might be asked to fill in for a volunteer that needs a break, or to walk the festival area for visibility and fix any problems you see, or you might be asked to take water to the entertainers! Regardless of where you help, you will be given clear direction on what you will be doing. With full sincerity, we appreciate your flexibility!
Clean Up: You will help maintain the cleanliness of Old Town! You will assist with collecting trash from the bins around the festival. We will provide disposable gloves and a wagon to help make the job go by easier. If you see loose trash in places they don’t belong, you can use our brooms and dustpans to pick them up. You will also help keep the tables in the food area clean. Cleaning supplies will be at the beverage tent. If you need a break, reach out to any of the floaters and we will swap you out!
General volunteers should be up for many different tasks. Flexibility in this role is key. These volunteers are the only way Lansing Pride is possible, and that’s largely due to their willingness to take on a lot of different tasks. We will try our best to keep your tasks rotating - trash pick up is one of the most important and challenging roles at Pride, but we don’t want you pulling trash for your entire shift. Be willing to work with us to ensure your time is productive and sustainable!

| Entrance Staff | Jun 27, 2026 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm | 4 | 4 | |
|
message
Front/Back Entrances: You are the first and last impression of the festival! It is important that you are extremely good with people, can handle multiple tasks at the same time, and are detail oriented. Some expectations:
Greet everyone that enters and exits with a smile.
Accept donations from attendees - Assist attendees with scanning the QR code with their camera, and following the link to donate via PayPal.
There will also be a bucket for cash donations.
ONLY BOARD MEMBERS ARE PERMITTED TO TAKE CASH FROM THE ENTRANCES.
You should also pay particular attention to the overall security of the visitors entering the festival.
There should always be at least 2 people at the entrance tents. If you need a break, reach out to any of the floaters and they will swap you out!
IMPORTANT: While Lansing Pride is a free event, and we hope always to keep it that way, we do rely on donations from attendees. This role is the primary way to solicit donations from those entering the festival. A good line to share with every person walking into the festival is, “Welcome to Pride! This is a free event, but we do accept donations to keep it that way!” or “Welcome! Would you like to make a donation? It’s not required but it is appreciated!” If they don’t have cash, direct them to the QR code to make a digital donation if desired. Be sure to sound friendly and not pushy. Always send them on their way with a, “Enjoy the festival!”
If there is an immediate need, get in touch with the volunteer coordination tent, on the radio.

| Vendor Setup/Tear Down | Jun 27, 2026 8:00 am - 12:00 pm | 30 | 4 | |
|
message
Vendors are the heart and soul of the Lansing Pride Festival. Making sure vendor setup is quick and painless sets everything off the best start. The Vendor Setup/Teardown position involves directing traffic, helping vendors find the entrance and exit, assisting in moving materials to and from vendor spots, and standing at the entrances to ensure only vendors are allowed in.
In the evening time, this position will primarily be helping vendors carry their belongings to their vehicles, as they won’t be allowed to bring their cars back into the festival area to load out. Being able to stand (or stand up and sit down) for longer periods of time and carry some items is crucial here.
Vendor Setup/Teardown Volunteers should be patient, helpful, and flexible. There are often times when instructions get confusing or misunderstood. There may be a time when judgement calls need to be made. Folks in this position should know who to go to for assistance and ensure all vendors feel taken care of. Our relationship with our vendors is critical, and this position is the face of Pride for them!

message
Expectations: Maintain a clean and safe environment for all children and families. Keep the areas neat and free of debris. Watch over the general safety of the area. If you see something, say something. If you need extra assistance, please reach out to a board member so we can help promptly!
Note: These folks will float between all of the potential positions below on a regular basis, at any point during their shift.
Chalk or bubble tender: You might help watch an area where children create chalk drawings or are blowing and playing with bubbles. You might help keep the chalk in one area and in the buckets when not in use, or help re-stock bubble solution. You might also end up creating chalk drawings with the kids, interact and have fun... Get chalky!
Floaters/Relief: Allowing a break each hour or as needed for volunteer stations or booths. Grabbing/restocking water if needed and picking up trash. Overseeing the safety of the operations in our area.
Volunteers in this role should be good with kids and understand when help is needed. Parents should always be with their children in this area, but accidents can happen and people can get separated. As a volunteer in the family area, the safety of children is always the top priority. If you find a missing child, get to a board member with a radio asap to send out a call.

You are responsible for the entirety of the stage! Some things you will be expected to handle:
Don’t allow anyone to climb onto the stage, and keep an eye out for safety hazards.
Keep an eye out for the continuous safety and wellbeing of everyone.
You may be asked to assist the performers as needed (collecting tips, walking up/down the stairs, etc).
You may also be asked to put chairs out for folks who have trouble standing for long periods of time and collecting them back up as folks are done.
Volunteers in this position should be helpful, kind, and think ahead to predict the needs of all those in the stage area. This role goes a long way in making the event a success for all involved!
If you see something, say something! If there is a situation, please reach out to the coordinator so we can promptly assist.

You are the overall eyes and ears of the Beer Tent! You set the tone for the shift, so be super friendly and maintain good customer service.
Please ensure that no one is being overserved.
Keep an eye out for the continuous safety and wellbeing of people and operations.
You will also be responsible for the product. Use best judgment on opening new cases of beer.
This role is critical in the overall success of the beer tent, which is where Lansing Pride makes most of its money for continuing the festival. There is a lot of responsibility with this role, so the volunteers fulfilling this position should be trustworthy, punctual, confident and logical. There will be times when the pit boss needs to use their best judgement to decide if someone is cut off or needs to be removed from the tent.
If you have questions (especially toward the end of the event), please ask a Coordinator or board member. If you need extra help (or if someone needs a break), please reach out to your local coordinator!
NOTE: Each volunteer in the beer tent is expected to sign an agreement not to consume alcohol before or during their volunteer shift. It’s especially imperative that those serving alcohol are in no way under the influence.
This is to ensure compliance with Michigan law and our liquor license.

Serve smiles, one beer at a time, and help earn tips for the donation jar! Be super friendly and keep the line moving along. Accept tickets for each drink, and clean up the area as you go. If you need any assistance, please ask a floater or the Pitboss for help!
Bartenders are the volunteers interacting most with the patrons in the beer tent. That means these folks are responsible for keeping tabs on how much people have had to drink, sharing that information with the pitboss, and making sure everyone stays safe and taken care of.
These volunteers should be responsible, affable, and confident in their better judgement.

You will be at the tables just outside the entrance to the bar area and check IDs, place wristbands on visitors, and sell drink tickets! Per liquor laws, we must be presented with a valid/unexpired ID to enter. A board member will be checking in periodically to take cash away.
Ensuring all those served are of legal age is critical to maintaining safety at Pride and compliance with laws and regulations. If minors are served at Lansing Pride, it could mean the removal of our liquor license, which is the main source of revenue for the event. ID checkers should take their role very seriously and be confident in how they conduct themselves with guests.

You will be guarding the entrance to the beer tent and must help us ensure that the laws and rules are followed, to ensure we can continue to provide the beer tent at future events. Some things to keep in mind:
Only those with wristbands are permitted to enter.
Guests who need to leave the fenced area may not take a drink with them. No external drinks can be brought into the fenced area. (*This is extremely important. Old Town is a social district, so folks may have drinks from local bars and restaurants already - those CANNOT be brought into our beverage area)
Volunteers working the bar entrance should be friendly yet firm when maintaining and enforcing the rules of the beer tent. There’s no leniency when it comes to this role – if we don’t follow the rules, we could lose our liquor license and be subject to fines for breaking the law.
If you run into any conflicts in this role, there will be plenty of security nearby to assist!

Teardown and clean up: You will assist with collecting trash, sweeping the streets, collecting various things that were used during the festival.
While most of the focus of Pride is on the day of the festival, the teardown and clean-up is equally important. We are guests in Old Town, and in order for them to feel comfortable and excited to continue inviting us back, we have to make sure we take care of the mess we made.
Volunteers in this role should be enthusiastic and detail-oriented problem solvers.
