About the registration

DISPLAY AREA

 

Terminal Building

  • Specified locations are identified for hanging artwork or installing sculptures.

  • Artwork will only be hung on the plastered walls selected for this project. Nails can be used for hanging. Easels may be used to display work.

Airport Grounds

  •  Located inside the area defined by Rosenwald and Airport Boulevard.

 

ELIGIBILITY

Please ensure that you (the artist) meet eligibility requirements.

 

  • Application for the Airport Art Program is open to artists who submit a completed application on time and can meet the various program requirements.

  • Members of the Arts Committee Airport Art Sub-Committee are not eligible to submit work.

  • Artwork will not be accepted from an artist who is deceased or living outside the 26 Panhandle counties.

 

CRITERIA FOR ART WORK FOR SINGLE ARTIST DISPLAY

 

  • Art selected for a single artist display will be on loan to the Airport for four (4) months. 

    • Artist(s) may sell the work during the exhibition period; however, the work must still remain for the duration of the exhibition period.

  • Ownership of the art will remain in private hands.

  • Art exhibits should enhance the terminal building environment and provide a better understanding and appreciation of air transportation, the culture of Texas or the Panhandle. The airport may exhibit a variety of styles and periods of art.

  • An artist may submit (10) pieces of art for consideration. The artwork must be aesthetically pleasing and cohesive to one another. There is no fee to the artist for submission.

  • If you are submitting (10) sculptures, they must fit on a 5’x 5’ pad or pedestal.

    • Submissions of sculpture may be denied for safety issues.

  • All entries must be original works of the submitting artist. The art need not have been created especially for the airport.

  • Artists are responsible for timely delivery and removal of their art. The artist will work with the Airport Director of Aviation and staff. 

 

About the event

The Amarillo Convention and Visitors Bureau Arts Committee will manage an Airport Art Program on behalf of the City of Amarillo. The program will allow artists to display works of art in the Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport terminal building and grounds, subject to and in accordance with the specific policies and rules of the Airport. If there is a conflict between this policy and any Airport policy, then this policy will yield. The purpose of the Airport Art Program is to offer a first impression of Amarillo for visitors and enhance the visual experience at the Rick Husband Airport. The program will give exhibition opportunities and showcase local and area artists. All requests for additional information should be in writing via email to ashleyr@

Terms & Conditions

AIRPORT GUIDELINES

 

  • The management and handling of exhibited items will be under the supervision of the Director of Aviation or designated representative. It is understood that artwork, on loan for a limited time to the Airport, is done so at risk of the artist or owner.  The maximum exhibit time is 6 months.

  • The Airport DOES NOT provide insurance for loss or damage to any loaned artwork.  The Airport will exercise the same care with respect to artwork on exhibition as it does in the safekeeping of comparable property of the Airport. 

  • The Director of Aviation or representative will inspect and confirm that all artwork on loan is received in good condition and is appropriate to withstand the ordinary risk of exhibition in a public place. The lender will provide the Airport with any cleaning or care instructions.

  • The City Legal Department will prepare an Art Loan Agreement for each display in which the artist will agree that in the event of loss or damage, the Airport is free from liability for any and all claims arising out of loss or damage.  No long-term storage will be provided for artwork at the airport.  The lender will provide the Airport a certificate of insurance for the value of the art which names the Airport as an additional insured during the period of display.

SELECTION PROCESS

 

The Amarillo Convention and Visitors Bureau Arts Committee will appoint an Arts Committee Airport Art Sub-Committee. The sub-committee will make recommendations to the Arts Committee for approval. The recommendations will be submitted to the Amarillo Airport Board of Managers for final approval.

 

Artist submissions will be evaluated considering the following:

  • Originality

  • Creativity

  • Appropriateness to the area, City of Amarillo and the Panhandle

  • General community appeal

  • Maintenance/longevity of the artwork; preference may be given to pieces requiring less maintenance and better sustainability of materials

  • Public safety

  • Quality of materials and execution

  • Ease of installation

 

The Arts Committee reserves the right to accept or reject any and all submittals. The Arts Committee will make recommendations to the Amarillo Airport Board of Managers for their final approval. The Airport Board of Managers reserves the right to accept or reject the recommendations from the Arts Committee.

 

APPLICATION PRESENTATION AND CONTENT

 

The following materials must be submitted via Eventeny or by mail to: Amarillo Convention and Visitors Bureau, 1000 S. Polk, Amarillo, Texas 79101

  • Artist’s contact information

  • Artist’s bio.

  • Information on each piece submitted including:

    • Title of art work

    • Medium/Materials used

    • Dimensions of art

  • Color photos of completed artwork. 

    • If you are submitting a sculpture, please submit color photos of completed artwork from at least three angles. 

    • The digital file must be in jpeg format no more than 1920 pixels at the widest point with a saved size of no less than 1 MB and no more than 3 MB resolution.

  • Information on how art will be delivered, any special requirements, and how it will be attached to a base (if sculpture).

  • Art title and artist’s statement must include the origin of the idea, theme, design/creative rationale, etc.

 

Artist application submissions will be returned to the artist or picked up at the Amarillo Convention and Visitors Bureau.

 

The Arts Committee reserves the right to accept or reject any and all submittals. The Arts Committee will make recommendations to the Amarillo Airport Board of Managers for their final approval. The Airport Board of Managers reserves the right to accept or reject the recommendations from the Arts Committee.
