About the event

The Inaugural Charlotte Chalk Art Festival (CCAF2022) is a FREE, family-friendly two-day festival being held at 4237 Raleigh Street on October 8th and 9th from 11am and to 3pm each day. CCAF2022 features a fee-based street chalk art competition for ages 12 to 17 and 18+. Each category, including Youth Teams, will compete for Cash Prizes. Festival goers will watch a street chalk art gallery come to life while enjoying various music and performance offerings, patronizing our curated arts and crafts, and food and beverage vendors.

About the application

2ppl instead of 3ppl, let us know. Read the following in it's entirety before finalizing your application. You will not be charged the application fee until you are accepted. All fees charged go to support the staging of this inaugural event. CCAF provides all supplies, light lunch on Saturday, and a t-shirt to each artist.
 
The Inaugural Charlotte Chalk Art Festival (CCAF) will host a Chalk Art Competition for Youth ages 12-17 and Adults 18+ on October 1st and 2nd from 11am to 3pm.
 
Apply to contribute to our inaugural street gallery and win Cash Prizes as follows: Individual Youth 12-17 - 1st Place $250, 2nd Place $125, 3rd Place $75, Youth Team (3ppl) 12-17 - 1st Place ONLY $300, and Adult 18+ 1st Place $400, 2nd Place $250, 3rd Place $100. Judges will select the winners on Sunday, October 2nd.
 
CCAF2022 will take place outside at the Trailhead Building located at 4237 Raleigh Street, Charlotte, NC 28213. The Inaugural CCAF is sponsored by Creative Canvas Productions, Charlotte Art League, Flywheel Group, Cluck Design, and The Spoke Easy.

Terms & Conditions

Your application must be filled out completely.
 
Artists must submit a sketch and description of their proposed artwork, along with 2 sample images of past artwork in any medium.
 
If selected, you will be asked to sign a waiver and a deadline for submitting that form will be provided at time of acceptance.
 
Artists will be notified no later than September 17, 2022 if they have been selected to participate.
 
Priority goes to artists located in the surrounding Charlotte, North Carolina and South Carolina areas. Not all who apply will be accepted. You are REQUIRED to be onsite both days. On October 1st, please arrive no later than 10:15am for check-in. On October 2nd, please arrive by no later than 11am.
 
Artists must complete their chalk art submission by 1:30pm on October 2nd.
 
To be considered for either youth category, you must turn 12 or still be age 17 by the registration deadline of September 17, 2022 at 7:00pmEST. All youth must be accompanied by a parent/guardian who will agree to stay on-site. Accompanying parent/guardian may not assist the any selected artist.
 
The Charlotte Chalk Art Festival committee reserves the right to deny any application for any reason.
 
If accepted, you will be REQUIRED to sign a Waiver Form.
 
CCAF2022 is a two-day RAIN OR SHINE EVENT – NO REFUNDS ONCE ACCEPTED.
 
CCAF2022 committee reserves the right to CLOSE the festival on either day due to extreme weather or public safety concerns, without refund to artist. We reserve the right to POSTPONE the festival prior to October 1st should there be an in advance warning of extreme weather, without refund to artist. Should there be a POSTPONEMENT, the festival will be moved to October 8th and 9th and all approved artists will retain their spot, without refund to artist.

Youth TEAM Ages 12-17 (3ppl) Two Day Chalk Art Artist Application $75 Non-refundable CCAF provides all supplies, light lunch on Saturday, and a t-shirt to each artist. You will not be charged until your application is approved. Not all who apply will be accepted/approved.

Picture requirements

  • Minimum pictures required: 4
  • Each Chalk Art Artist Applicant must provide a SKETCH and description of their PROPOSED ARTWORK, along with 2 sample images of past artwork in any medium. Your proposed and FINAL Artwork for the festival must be appropriate for public viewing by all ages. No words, symbols or logos intended as advertising may appear within the chalk drawing image. Art may be original or reproductions of other works. If art is a reproduction, the original artist must be credited in a visible location right under your piece.
