About the event

The Johns Creek Juneteenth Celebration is a powerful and vibrant community event that honors the historic significance of June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved Black people in the United States were freed in Texas. On that day, some 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, delivering the news that the Emancipation Proclamation—signed more than two years earlier—had finally been enforced in Texas, freeing over 250,000 enslaved Black people. This day, now known as Juneteenth, marks the end of slavery in America, and serves as both a celebration of freedom and a reminder of the long fight for justice and equality. Our Johns Creek Juneteenth Celebration is not just a commemoration, but also a day of community building, education, and reflection. The event brings together people from all walks of life to celebrate the richness of African American culture and history, as well as the progress that has been made in the pursuit of freedom and equality. The Johns Creek Juneteenth Celebration is an opportunity to connect with history, reflect on the struggles and triumphs of the past, and celebrate the strength of community. We invite you to join us in commemorating this important day of freedom and resilience, as we continue to strive for a world of equality and justice for all. ______________________________ *NO FOOD/BEVERAGE VENDORS NEEDED.
