Colored Colors has partnered up with Vineyard Offshore and Minority Millennials to offer an opportunity for artists to create a life-size Offshore Wind Turbine that is functional and promotes awareness to further educate the public on the benefits and operations of wind energy solutions. The selected work will be featured at Minority Millennials' 'We Are The Future Summit' at Nassau Coliseum. And then will be relocated to Vineyard Offshore's offices in New York. This application is FREE and open to all artists as long as the requirements are met. All applications are subject to approval and artists will be notified by May 6th, 2024. Deadline for submission is May 2nd, 2024

Project Title: Functional Offshore Wind Turbine Model
Submission Deadline: May 2nd, 2024
 
Project Overview:
The project seeks to commission the creation of a life-size model of an offshore wind turbine, with an emphasis on functionality and educational impact.
 
Model requirements:
  • Be approximately 8-10 feet in height.
  • Realistically demonstrate the process of harnessing wind to generate rotational energy.
  • Educate attendees on the mechanics and benefits of wind energy.
Objectives:
  • Visual Representation: Provide a clear visual and mechanical explanation of offshore wind turbine operation.
  • Public Engagement: Engage attendees in a tangible way, encouraging interest in renewable energy solutions.
Artist Stipend:
  • Project Budget: $4,000 (non-negotiable)
  • Travel Stipend: Decided after proposal approval.
  • Sponsorship: Lead sponsorship by Vineyard Offshore for Minority Millennials summit. 
Artist Requirements:
  • Technical Skills: Proven competency in design, fabrication, and an understanding of mechanical principles.
  • Functionality Focus: Demonstrated ability to create models that prioritize functional elements.
  • Durability: Experience with materials and construction techniques that ensure the model's withstands outdoor conditions and public interaction.
  • Aesthetics: Ability to balance functional requirements with a visually appealing design.
Application Materials:
  • Cover Letter: Concisely outline your interest in the project and how your skills align with the requirements.
  • Artist Portfolio: Showcase previous projects that demonstrate your technical abilities, creative approach, and attention to detail.
  • Project Proposal:
  1. Conceptual sketches or renderings of your proposed model.
  2. Detailed description of construction materials and methods.
  3. Explanation of how your model will achieve functionality and educational objectives.
  4. Itemized budget breakdown.
  5. Estimated timeline for completion (must be ready by May 31st, 2024).

  • Artist Selection: May 6th, 2024
 
Timeline for completion:
  • The final artwork must be completed and ready for installation and presentation by May 31st, 2024, as mutually agreed upon by the selected artist and the project organizers.
  • Project will be displayed at ‘We Are The Future Summit’ in Nassau Coliseum and then transported to Vineyard Offshore's NY offices.
Evaluation Criteria:
Applications will be evaluated based on:
  • Technical Feasibility: The proposed design's soundness and ability to achieve project objectives.
  • Creative Vision: Originality of concept and overall aesthetic appeal.
  • Durability: Suitability of materials and construction for the intended purpose.
  • Budget: Adherence to the project budget and justification of any additional costs.
  • Timeline: Realistic timeline for completion within the deadline.

Terms & Conditions

1. Eligibility
  • The application is open to all artists regardless of experience level, race, gender, sexual orientation, or other protected status.
  • Artists must be 18 years of age or older, or have parental/guardian consent if under 18.
  • Artists may submit individual or collaborative proposals.
2. Application Materials
  • All application materials must be submitted in the specified format by the deadline of May 2nd, 2024.
  • Incomplete or late submissions may not be considered.
3. Intellectual Property
  • Artists retain all intellectual property rights to their submitted concepts and designs.
  • By submitting materials, artists grant Colored Colors, Vineyard Offshore, and Minority Millennials a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use images and descriptions of their proposals for promotional purposes related to the project.
  • The selected artist will be required to sign a separate agreement outlining the transfer of specific intellectual property rights necessary for the construction and display of the artwork.
4. Selection Process
  • A panel of representatives from Colored Colors will evaluate all submissions.
  • Selections will be based on creativity, technical feasibility, educational value, adherence to requirements, and overall alignment with the project's goals.
  • Decisions of the selection panel are final.
5. Compensation and Budget
  • There is no fee to apply for this project.
  • The selected artist/team will receive a stipend of $4000 to cover the costs of design, fabrication, and materials. An additional travel stipend will be negotiated upon selection.
  • Artists will be responsible for providing a detailed budget as part of their proposal.
6. Project Timeline
  • The final artwork must be completed and ready for installation and presentation by May 31st, 2024, as mutually agreed upon by the selected artist and the project organizers.

7. Liability 
  • Artists are responsible for ensuring the safety and stability of their designs.
  • Colored Colors, Vineyard Offshore, and Minority Millennials will not be held liable for any damages or injuries that may occur as a result of the artwork's construction or display.
8. Insurance
  • The selected artist may be required to obtain appropriate liability insurance for the duration of the artwork's public display.
9. Promotion and Publicity
  • The selected artist agrees to participate in reasonable promotional activities related to the project, such as interviews, press releases, and events.
10. Modification and Termination
  • The organizers reserve the right to modify or terminate the project at any time, with reasonable notice to the selected artist.
11. Governing Law
  • These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of the State of New York.
By submitting an application, artists acknowledge and agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.
