About the application

The Magic City Art Connection (MCAC), Birmingham's premier fine art festival, transforms Linn Park in downtown Birmingham, AL into an Art and Cultural epicenter with 180 fine art booths, special exhibitions and installations, live music and cultural performances, and the city's best restaurants and spirit purveyors, making for 3 days of enriching experiences and robust art sales. MCAC has garnered numerous awards and was recently voted as one of the Best Festivals in Birmingham Magazine and AL.com's Best of Birmingham annual poll. MCAC spotlights outstanding national, regional and local contemporary artists, with approximately 30 states annually represented. Esteemed collectors from Birmingham and the 5 State Region consistently appreciate and FIND ART at MCAC. The Festival also boasts acclaimed, knowledgeable jurors who over 37 years have given nearly ½ million dollars in Awards to MCAC artists. OVERVIEW Early Bird Application Deadline Extended to September 27, 2020. Submitting this Application Confirms you have Read and Comply with the 2021 MCAC ARTIST Terms, Conditions, Guidelines, Information, and General Release Document attached in the Related Files section below. A credit card will be required with your Application. The following Fee Schedule will occur unless notified to the contrary beforehand: > Non-Refundable Application Fee: charged upon Submission > Jury Notification: October 2, 2020. > Non-Refundable Booth Confirmation Payment: charged on October 15, 2020 > Booth Fee Balance: charged on January 15, 2021 ELIGIBILITY Open to all artists 18 years of age or older. Artists are chosen for participation by a Jury. The Jury reserves the right to review, and approve or refuse artwork presented for consideration. FEE EXEMPTIONS 2020 MCAC Confirmed Artists and 2019 Award Winners, Featured & Emerging Artists are Jury Exempt / Auto-Accepted to the 2021 Show and if submitting an Early Bird Application by September 15 (or extended deadline), the Application Fee is waived. Confirmed 2020 MCAC Artists should email the Artist Coordinator to request a link to a special 2021 MCAC Registration Form w/o Application Fee – ArtistCoordinator@FindArtBirmingham.com. EARLY BIRD FEES – Applying by September 18 - Extended to September 27 $30 Non-Refundable Application Fee: Charged upon Application Submission $100 Non-Refundable Booth Confirmation Payment: Charged on October 15, 2020 Booth Fee Balance, applicable Upgrade Fee & Rentals: Charged on January 15, 2021 SINGLE Booth Fee Balance - $245 ($345 total with Confirmation Payment) LOW RATE Booth Fee Balance - $150 ($250 total with Confirmation Payment) + Commission of Total Sales paid to MCAC with Sales Tax at Artist Check-Out on Sunday April 25, 2021 BOOTH UPGRADE FEES - Charged on January 15, 2021 with the Single Booth Fee Balance. Not available to Low Rate Booths. DOUBLE Booth Upgrade - $350 - Limited availability CORNER Booth Upgrade - $130 - Limited availability FOUNTAIN WALK Booth Upgrade - $215 - Limited availability and placement only by Fountain Walk Jury selection - Located on the central Festival entrance plaza - If payment is declined, Application will not be included in the FW Jury Pool - FW Jury Notification will be sent on March 1, 2021 - If Application is not selected by FW Jury, FW Upgrade Fee Refund will be mailed by April 1, 2021 - No exceptions JURY 2 – FEES INCREASE $40 Application Fee $125 Booth Confirmation Payment *** Fees paid after the respective due dates will incur an additional $25 Late Processing Fee and must be resolved immediately in order to hold your Booth Space. Fees not fully paid by March 1, 2021 will result in loss of placement at the Festival. RENTALS (Optional) $365 (10’ x 10’) high-peak tent with opaque vinyl wrap-around sides $730 (10’ x 20’) high-peak tent with opaque vinyl wrap-around sides $30 6ft table and 2 chairs WAITLIST Candidates on the Waitlist will be ranked by jury score and medium. Notifications will be emailed as spaces become available before and after February 1, 2021. All Waitlist artists must confirm their place by reply email to the Notification and the Booth Fee Balance will be required upon receipt. SITE REQUESTS The MCAC site layout is being revamped to create wider avenues among other strategies for a safe (social distancing), fun and engaging MCAC experience for all. Therefore, because of these changes site requests are not being accepted. Although, If you DO NOT want to be placed in a previous year's site location, be sure to let us know upon acceptance. CANCELLATIONS & REFUND POLICY Cancellations must be submitted in writing to the Artist Coordinator at ArtistCoordinator@FindArtBirmingham.com. DEADLINE: March 1, 2021 for a 75% refund of Booth Fee Balance No Refund - Receipt after March 1, 2021 COVID-19 SAFETY _ POLICIES & PROCEDURES MCAC layout, logistics, policies and procedures are being revamped for a safe, fun, and engaging MCAC experience for all. New COVID-19 specific policies and procedures including important instructions and information will be emailed along with the Booth Fee Balance Confirmation sent in the first week of February and will also be included in the Exhibitor Pre-Show Memo emailed by March 31, 2021. Exhibitors must pay special attention to and follow all of the imperative guidelines developed for optimal health and safety. COVID-19 REFUND POLICY _ 2 OPTIONS If COVID-19 circumstances require cancellation of the event, Confirmed Artist who paid all Booth Fees will receive an email notification with a Required Reply Form including choices to receive one of the following 2 Options – * Option 1 - A 100% refund of Booth Fee Balance will be issued within 45 days after receipt of Required Reply Form. * Option 2 – Transfer of full Fees collected to hold a 2022 MCAC Booth. The Required Reply Form must be submitted by the deadline given in order to confirm artist’s choice of refund or 2022 transfer. WEATHER POLICY The Festival does not close during intermittent rain, unless the weather pattern suggests severe weather. Come prepared for RAIN or SHINE. MCAC VIRTUAL All confirmed artists are eligible to participate in MCAC Virtual event(s).
