Monday, August 5 • 1:00-3:00 PM There are so many benefits when making art! In the creative process we can explore our self-expression, gain personal insight, relieve everyday stress, and develop self-awareness. With “Art Me Happy” classes, artist Karen Mazzoline will use art starters, basic art techniques, and a unique activity to help boost our moods and self-confidence! Each week from July 29 - August 26 will have a different theme, focus, and activity, so you can attend every session! We will be exploring different media, styles, and techniques each week. Come and unwind as you use art to help melt the stress away!

3 SESSION CLASS -Mondays, August 5, 12, and 19 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Build your drawing “muscle” by attending Hessel School House’s Drawing Bootcamp! In this three-week course, learn about the tools used to draw values, shapes, textures, and perspective. Artist Karen Mazzoline will use starter exercises, activities, and projects to help you develop your drawing skillset! Our focus will be on the elements of art and the principles of design as we draw people, land and seascapes, animals, objects, and places. We will also be working with different drawing media (marker, ink, colored pencil). Materials and tools will be provided by the instructor, but if you have your own sketch books and pencils, feel free to bring them to class!

Wednesday, August 7 • 10:00 - 11:30 AM Join us for a Budding Artist class designed for 4-6 year olds! Let your young artist's creativity flow as they create a beautiful fish painting. Under the guidance of Mrs. Gordon, the students will learn step-by-step how to paint a unique canvas of a fish swimming under the water. This engaging and interactive class is sure to inspire young imaginations and spark a love for art. Don't miss out on this fun and educational experience for your little artist!

Wednesday, August 7 • 1-3 PM Turn two socks into an adorable cat! Students will learn simple hand sewing techniques to turn socks into a cute cat. Mrs. Gordon will assist in creating your unique cat!

Friday, August 9 • 10 AM - 12 PM Join us for an exciting elementary art class during Boat Show Weekend, where young aspiring boat builders aged 6-11 will have the opportunity to create their very own simple wooden boat model. Using glue, balsa wood, and paper, students will unleash their creativity and craftsmanship to build a miniature boat that they can proudly call their own. This hands-on project is not only a fun and engaging activity but also a stepping stone for future boat builders to explore their passion and creativity.

Friday, August 9 • 1-3 PM In this hands-on workshop, you will create a stunning set of 4 coasters featuring images of classic Chris Craft boats and ceramic tiles. These coasters are not only practical for protecting your furniture, but also serve as a beautiful accent piece for your cabin or home decor. To complete your set, you will also craft a simple wooden container to elegantly hold your coasters when not in use. Join us for a fun and creative class that will add a touch of nautical charm to your living space!

Wednesday, August 14 • 3-5 PM Create unique and stunning pieces of jewelry using recycled and repurposed materials! Join artist Marissa Wissner as you plan and make your own jewelry! Learn how to use jewelry making tools and techniques to explore your own personal style. All materials and tools will be provided!

Wednesday, August 14 • 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm Michigan is home to numerous lakes, forests, and beaches! Come and create your own “homage” to this beautiful state at Hessel School House! Using acrylic on wood panel, join artist Karen Mazzoline as she guides you through the process. You can choose the woods scene, beach scene, or both! No experience is necessary and all materials will be provided for a night of fun! Just bring a friend and your love of creating!

Wednesday, August 21 • 9:30 AM - 1:00 PM n this class, you will learn how to create a beautiful and functional apple basket that is approximately 5” in height and 11” in diameter. Using two weaving techniques—randing and slewing—you will have the opportunity to incorporate a decorative band on the side of your basket, adding a unique and personalized touch to your creation. Dyed reeds will be provided for you to use, allowing you to experiment with different colors and patterns. All supplies are included in the class fee, so all you need to bring is your creativity and enthusiasm. By the end of the class, you will have crafted your very own one-of-a-kind apple basket, ready to be displayed as a stunning art piece in your home.

Wednesdays, August 21 & 28 • 2:00 - 5:00 PM In this class, Cheryl Gordon will provide each student with a loom. They will learn how to prepare fabric strips for weaving, how to warp the loom, and how to do tabby weaving. Students will need to bring approximately 7 to 8 yards of cotton fabric to create a beautiful functional rug, approximately 30” x 45” in size. Class fee includes loom and warping thread and two class sessions. Reminder that students will need to purchase the fabric needed for their rag rug.
