The Johns Creek Juneteenth Celebration is a powerful and vibrant community event that honors the historic significance of June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved Black people in the United States were freed in Texas. On that day, some 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, delivering the news that the Emancipation Proclamation—signed more than two years earlier—had finally been enforced in Texas, freeing over 250,000 enslaved Black people. This day, now known as Juneteenth, marks the end of slavery in America, and serves as both a celebration of freedom and a reminder of the long fight for justice and equality.
