Chili is defined as any type of meat or combination of meats prepared with chili peppers and assorted spices. While beans are allowed, rice and pasta are not permitted.
This application pertains to the City of Lula’s inaugural Chili Cook-off, an event held as part of our Sesquicentennial yearlong celebration.
Individuals of all ages, businesses, organizations, and teams are invited to participate in this competition. Prizes will be awarded for Judges’ selections of first, second, and third place, as well as for the Community Choice award.
We invite you to join us and showcase your chili recipe to the Lula community.
Terms & Conditions
Welcome to the inaugural Chili Cook-off in Lula, GA, held in celebration of the City of Lula's Sesquicentennial (150th anniversary). Please review the following application guidelines and contact us if you require further information.
Definition of Chili: Chili is defined as any type of meat or combination of meats prepared with chili peppers and assorted spices. While beans are permitted, rice and pasta are strictly prohibited.
Participation and Application:
Submitting an application does not guarantee entry for individuals or teams. Participation may be limited based on available space in the venue. Applicants will be notified regarding acceptance status by February 15th, 2026.
Entry and Preparation Instructions:
· Each entrant may submit up to two varieties of chili per application.
· All chili must be homemade; canned products are not allowed.
· A minimum of two gallons per variety must be prepared prior to the event for judging and community tasting. Additional quantities may be brought to enhance chances of recognition.
· Entries must be delivered "ready-to-eat" in suitable containers (e.g., crock pots). Onsite cooking at the Lula Depot is not permitted.
· Participants are required to provide a list of ingredients for each chili submission to accommodate allergy concerns (specific quantities are not necessary).
· Garnishes are not permitted in any category. Only ingredients incorporated throughout the entire chili are allowed; any ingredient present solely as a topping is considered a garnish and is prohibited.
· All food must be maintained at appropriate food-safe temperatures throughout storage, resting, and serving.
Competition Etiquette and Rules:
· Influencing the judges in any manner is strictly forbidden.
· The use of personal decorations at stations is strongly discouraged due to space limitations; all event decorations will be managed by organizers.
· Spoons, napkins, sample cups, refreshments, and palate cleansers for both judges and participants will be provided.
· As a family-friendly event, weapons, inappropriate language, and altercations are strictly prohibited. We ask that all attendees maintain civility and respect.
Awards: The competition will conclude with four awards:
· Community’s Choice: Selected by community votes during tastings.
· Judges’ Awards: First, second, and third places determined via blind sampling by our panel of judges.
Disqualification: Any violation of the above rules will result in automatic disqualification and removal from the event.
Agreement Confirmation:This document serves as an electronic agreement. By selecting a booth, participants acknowledge and accept the terms and conditions outlined herein.
