Host a Room Party:
Bring your own flavor to the con floor by hosting an Anime Detour room party!
Hotel lobby not cutting it for you? Us neither. Take the party straight to your room by hosting an Anime Detour room party!
Room Parties are parties that are held exclusively within an assigned and reserved hotel suite designated for this purpose and have been a unique aspect of Anime Detour for years, and will be for years to come. Any individual, group, club, or organization may apply to host a room party and any theme!
We are here to ensure that you and all of the convention attendees strike that perfect balance of safety and good vibes. This means designating your party a centrally located hotel suite and is well advertised to con-goers who may be interested.
Registering to host a room party at Anime Detour not only makes you totally awesome, but also provides you with some pretty sweet benefits:
- Listing of your party in the physical and virtual Anime Detour program book, as well as on maps throughout the hotel.
- Designated room in the Room Parties Block. You’ll be close to the convention spaces, and accessible by escalator and elevator!
- Up to four (4) complimentary weekend badges for you and your co-hosts!
- You get a “Welcome Pack” from the Room Parties Department!
How To Party:
We know how much work goes into actually throwing a party, so we aim to make the process of getting one as easy as possible.
- Read over the Anime Detour Room Party Terms & Conditions (Below) to familiarize yourself with the regulations for the weekend.
- Submit this Room Party Request Form.
- Schedule and Complete an Interview.
- We will be in communication with you with if you are approved or not, and any further information you may need to submit or announcements you need to be informed about.
After that, it’s party on. Your room party is only going to be as amazing as you make it – Anime Detour Room Parties are known for being larger than life. If you think you have a groundbreaking theme and the skills to turn it into a Room Party to be talked about for years to come, we heavily encourage you to apply!
Q&A:
Q: Can I have contests in my Room Party? Can I give out prizes in my Room Party?
A: Yes. As long as you do not charge for participation to receive in said prizes.
Q: Can I Sleep in my Party Room?
A: Yes, so long as it does not interfere with the hours of your party block. Each room comes with two double beds if you choose not to remove them.
Q: Can I throw a one-day party?
A: Contact the Room Parties Department and we’ll see what we can work out.
Q: Can we sell merchandise at our Room Party?
A: You may not sell anything in your party room with the exception of registrations to other conventions. Voluntary tip jars are allowed, and you may politely ask for tips, but you cannot deny anyone access to the party or items being given away if they don’t tip. No minimum tip requests.
Q: Do the Party Rooms have access to the internet?
A: The internet access is whatever the standard guest internet the hotel provides. You will not have access to any sort of Anime Detour network.
Q: How do I know if my Party request form was received or approved?
A: You will receive an email reply from the Room Parties Department usually within 3 to 5 days of your form being submitted. If you do not hear back from us after that time please email us, we may ask you to resubmit your form.
Q: How do I put up signs and Decorations?
A:
- Use Blue Painter’s Tape! This is a rule set by the hotel itself. No other type of tape is allowed.
- Do not cover any thermostats, smoke detectors or fire sprinklers.
Q: How long does my Party need to be open?
A: Your party needs to be open a minimum of 4 consecutive hours each day on Friday and Saturday. That’s 8 hours total. If you want to open Sunday as well, that is fine, but you must still be open for 4 hours each day the first two days of the convention.
Q: How loud can my Party be?
A: If your music can be heard approximately two or three rooms away, it is too loud.
No speakers can be placed in the hallway. They must be inside the room itself.
If you would like help adjusting your noise levels, contact the Convention Communications to get one of the Room Parties staff to assist you.
Q: If I get a drink in one room, can I take it to another room?
A: No. Alcoholic drinks are not allowed to be transported outside of the room in which they were served.
Q: If we register our room, do we have to register for the convention as well?
A: Yes, you must be a registered member of the convention to host a room party. Upon acceptance into the room party block, you will receive a special discount code to use. Once you go to check out and apply the code, you will be able to receive your badge for the convention. All party hosts and guests must have a valid Anime Detour badge.
Q: What do I do if I want a separate room for sleeping?
A: If you choose, there will be a special room block available for accepted room party hosts to purchase an additional room for sleeping in. This link will come in the informational acceptance email. There is a limit of 1 room per party.
Q: What do I need to know to serve alcohol at my Party?
A:
- The party can only be open during stated hours and only if there is an AD badger on site to badge for entry. They will only check convention badges, not ID.
- You are required to check the ID of everyone you serve.
- Nobody is allowed to leave the room with a drink in hand.
- Serving alcohol to someone who is already visibly intoxicated is known as over-serving.
- We will not hesitate to get the Minneapolis Police involved if there are reports of underage drinking or over-serving. You are liable to the police for any underage drinking or over-serving.

style="color:#e67e23;">Q: What is not allowed in my Party?
A:
- Fog machines.
- Dry ice.
- Open flames.
- Make sure your party does not violate other Anime Detour policies, e.g. the weapons policy.
- Don’t break the hotel. Please.
Q: Would I be able to request additional items like: TV, chairs, water station, or a table?
A: No, the hotel does not have any extra items for your room, you must provide these items yourself. You can attempt to request a mini refrigerator, but the hotel has a limited supply.

Terms & Conditions
Commerce
- You may not charge an entry fee.
- You may not sell anything in your room party with the exception of registrations to other conventions.
- Voluntary tip jars are allowed, but you cannot deny anyone access to the party if they don’t tip.
- No minimum tip requests or suggested donations. You must keep your tip jars inside of the room at all times. At no time can they be removed and placed elsewhere (ex: hallways.)
- Monetary amount (even if it’s just a suggestion) + item or service = commerce. This is not allowed.
Hosting
- At least one person in your group needs to be at least 18 years of age (at the time of the conventions), sober, and responsible during all party hours of operation.
- All room party hosts and volunteers must be registered for Anime Detour. No exceptions.
- While more than one host may be registered for a given room party, AT LEAST one of the hosts must be physically present, responsible, and sober AT ALL TIMES during the party’s hours of operation.
- Your party must welcome everyone wearing a current Anime Detour badge. If you are an age-restricted party, they must also show a legal form of identification. If you are hosting a 21+ party,
- One party host must check all IDs at the door.
- All room parties are subject to review for appropriate content.
- Anime Detour DOES NOT pay for your party room. All hosts are responsible for their own room costs and any fees they may incur.
Hours
- All room parties must be open for a minimum of 4 hours on Friday and 4 hours on Saturday.
- No room parties may be open before 3pm on Friday.
- Barring emergencies, parties must be open for all of their stated hours. If there is an emergency and the party needs to open late or close early, the party hosts should contact the Room Parties team at their office.
- You must post your party hours near your door, as a courtesy for our attendees so they know when you are open for partying!
Noise Levels
- If your music can be heard two rooms away, it is too loud.
- All speakers must be inside the room.
- If you would like help adjusting your noise levels, contact the Room Parties staff to assist you.
- In the event of noise or other complaints with regards to room parties they will first be handled by convention staff before being escalated to hotel staff if necessary.
Safety
- No fog machines.
- No dry ice.
- No open flame – including candles.
- Make sure your party does not violate other Anime Detour policies, such as the weapons policy.
- Strobe lights may be used, but you must put a sign or warning outside of the door for attendee’s sake.
- Blue painter’s tape is the only acceptable tape to use. Do not use any other type of tape.
- Do not cover or tamper with any thermostats, smoke detectors, or fire sprinklers.
- No smoking or vaping of any substance is allowed.
- No distribution of any drugs or cannabis products (gummies, vapes, joints, etc) to any guests at your room party.
Serving Alcohol
- Parties may only serve alcohol during their stated open hours.
- You must card for a valid government-issued ID before serving any alcohol, even if the attendee looks old enough. The person checking IDs must be sober. No exceptions. This is for your own benefit with regards to MN liquor laws and statutes.
- Attendees are not allowed to leave your room with alcohol. If someone does leave your room with a drink or is making a scene about it, please notify Anime Detour staff as they are responsible for enforcing convention policies.
- Serving alcohol to someone who is already visibly intoxicated is known as over-serving. Use your best judgment to avoid over-serving, you are responsible for your room party.
- Authorities will be contacted if there are reports of underage drinking or attendees not being carded.

Other
- If it’s illegal outside the hotel, it’s illegal inside the hotel.
- The Hyatt is a non-smoking hotel. The smoking area is in front of the hotel, just outside the doors that lead to Main Programming.
- Hotel policy is that no furniture in the rooms may be moved for any reason, with the exception of chairs. Please contact Room Parties if you would like to request the hotel to remove the bed or sofa from the room.
- If you do not reach out and proceed to remove items, you will be charged a fine for moving furniture without permission.
We want to help you to have the most fun as you possibly can, however, in the case that any of these rules are broken, we reserve the right to shut any party down as we see fit. This ensures the safety of everyone and makes it so that we can continue hosting Room Parties for years to come!
