About the event

The Annual kick-off to the Holidays is the Holiday Lights Parade presented by the Downtown Community Partnership and sponsored by Xcel Energy. This parade attracts thousands of spectators throughout the Fargo-Moorhead community and includes hundreds of participants that decorate their entries with lights. This magical evening will feature spectacular parade floats, marching units, equestrian entries, & so much more!

About the application

To ensure we can properly plan space and volunteers for the parade lineup we request every float/group registers for the parade.

Your registration fee helps us pay for parade costs and makes sure we can continue providing this parade for many years to come. As a small non-profit we would not be able to put on this important community event without your participation and financial support!

Terms & Conditions

Policy Agreement

  • The 2021 Xcel Energy Holiday Lights Parade will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 6:30 PM
  • Parade Line-up begins at 5 PM unless otherwise instructed
  • Enter the parade route at 11th Street and Center Ave. 
  • NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ALLOWED! A completed parade entry along with applicable fees must be received by 5 PM on Friday, November 26, 2021 EXTENDED TO DECEMBER 1st

Décor:

  • Absolutely NO pyrotechnics, fire or firing of firearms is allowed.
  • Entries that use live animals are responsible for cleaning up after the animals immediately.
  • Generators, converters and batteries can be used to power lights and sound equipment on the parade unit. 
    • Make sure the power unit is big enough to provide power safely.

 

Float Requirements:

  • Float entries may not exceed 13 feet in height (to ensure clearance for the skyways), 12 feet in width and 55 feet in length NOT including tow units. 
  • The framework must be at least 12 inches from the ground when the float is decorated and loaded.
    • (This will allow necessary ground clearance during the lineup and parade).
  • Sufficient wheel and wagon tongue clearance must be incorporated so that no interference may occur with the chassis.
  • All entries must be self-propelled, motor-pulled or horse drawn. This is a Forward Motion Parade. All units and entries must keep moving forward.
  • The tow vehicle is strongly encouraged to be decorated as well. We strongly encourage that the trailers are skirted.
  • All entries are not permitted to cause any gap between floats/entries during the parade.

 

Safety: 

  • All children under the age of 13 participating in the parade must be supervised by an adult at all times.
  • In the interest of safety, throwing candy and prizes from float/vehicle is PROHIBITED.
  • Each unit may have people walking beside the float HANDING out candy and prizes to the crowd.
  • All entries must have an easily accessible fire extinguisher on the float or in the tow vehicle.
  • A kit containing appropriate tools for minor repairs is recommended.
  • Floats using gas-powered generators need to have the fumes ventilated safely. All fuels must be in appropriate containers. (Allow a hot generator to cool for 15 minutes before refilling) The sound from a gas-powered generator should be muffled as much as possible.
  • Disposal of all floats’ material is the responsibility of the sponsoring organization and/or individuals.
  • Please respect private property.

 

 

Prices

Business/Personal/Club Float $150 This fee applies to all applicants that are NOT a Non-profit, emergency Service vehicle, or Veterans Group. Examples include: -Personal Float or Walking Group -Business Float or Walking Group -Club Float or Walking Group
Non-Profit Float $100 This fee is applicable to registered Non-Profits
Veterans Group $0 Veteran Groups and Color Guards can register for the parade at no cost.
Emergency Vehicles $0 Emergency vehicles such as fire trucks, ambulances, and EMTs can register at no cost.
