About the application

The Lithopolis Honeyfest Bake-off is designed to encourage the everyday cook to discover the many benefits of using honey, not just as a sweetener of choice, but as a common ingredient in a variety of recipes.  You are not only adding healthy sweetness and rich flavor when you cook with honey; you are adding vitamins, minerals and antioxidants!

Terms & Conditions

GENERAL RULES

  • No entry fee. Open to all.  Recipes need not be original.
  • Entry must be covered and set on/inside a disposable container.  
  • ONE entry per container.
  • Refrigeration is NOT available.
  • ONE entry for category. 
  • Entrant's name is not to be anywhere  on their item, neither on the container or recipe form. (Violating this rule may result in disqualification.)
  • As a courtesy to other entrants, entries received after official registration/drop-off that do not fit into a specified category will be ineligible for judging but would be appreciated as a donation for the bake sale.

REGISTRATION

  • Drop-off is Friday, September 6, between 3pm and 7pm.  Be sure to bring your entry as well as the attached entry and recipe form for each entry.
  • Entries must be taken directly to Wagnalls Memorial Library Community Building (150 E Columbus Street).  Please park in the library lot behind Wagnalls to drop off your entries.
  • An Exhibitor number will be assigned to each entrant at drop-off.

CATEGORIES (Classes 1-5 require honey to be used as 50% of all sweeteners in recipe.  Failure to comply will result in disqualification of submission.)

  • CLASS 1 - Bar cookies (minimum quantity - 1 dozen)
  • CLASS 2 - Drop and Form cookies (minimum quantity - 1 dozen)
  • CLASS 3 - Cakes/Cupcakes (minimum quantity - 1 whole cake OR 1 dozen cupcakes)
  • CLASS 4 - Pies (minimum quanity - 1 whole pie)
  • CLASS 5 - Muffins/Quick Bread (minimum quantity - 1 dozen muffins or 1 loaf non-yeast quick bread)
  • CLASS 6 - Yeast Bread (minimum quantity - 1 loaf or 1 dozen rolls.  **REQUIREMENT:  100% honey as sole sweetener!**)
  • CLASS 7 - Munchies - Unique or imaginative snack using honey.  Honey must constitute 50% of all sweetener used in recipe.)
  • CLASS 8 - Gluten-free

JUDGING

  • Judging will take place on Friday evening, promptly at 7pm. 
  • Judging is NOT open to the public.
  • Entries will be judged on:
    • Use of required amount of honey.
    • Flavor.
    • Texture.
    • Appearance.

AWARDS (per category)

1st place:  $25

2nd place:  $15

3rd place:  $10

Best of Show:  Recipe will be featured in next year's Honeyfest Cookbook

 

(NOTE:  It is the responsibility of each contestant to pick up any awards on __________ at (time) when the awards  are publicly announced.  If contestant is unable to pick up his/her award at that time, awards will be mailed to the address on the registration paperwork on the following business day.  Awards will NOT be available to be picked up at a later time/date.)
