I just love drawing these creatures. this amazing animals is more endangered than rhinos, yet we know little about them. Highly social, led by a queen, their large packs once roamed the continent. One of the most plaintive cries I have ever heard comes from a painted dog, separated from its family.
Several of you reading this have experienced standing in close proximity with me and these wild souls. Their bird like cries are a surprise, as is their general skittishness. Theirs is an old story, so far away from modern canids that the two could not mate and produce offspring. These ancient lines are a wonder to us new comers, and they deserve our respect , as well as our inspiration.

I've been a professional artist for close to five decades. All of my work begins in the field, or in the Bush, observing and sketching my subjects in their native habitat. My sketches move to paper ,or canvas layered with venetian plaster to give the piece movement and depth. My art is always hand drawn with pencil providing the base for the finished piece. Much of my work is then colored with charcoal dust, charcoal, watercolor, and oil, applied over a period of time in layers. My work is exhibited in galleries across the United States, Europe, and Africa
