"The Green Dominion"

"The Green Dominion" is a painting from my "Don't Go Chasing Waterfalls Series" This piece is largely inspired by the great fantasy artists of the 70's. In this series I explore using the grain lines of Spalted Maple wood to be the contours of mountains. The dark lines which you see are actually the result of a fungus that grows in the wood. To achieve this painting I had to create a technique in which I paint with layer upon layer of tinted shellac in order to color the wood without blocking out the characteristics of the grain it’s self. The clouds are air brushed under the resin. The backside of the piece has three coats of marine spar varnish. The sides and front surfaces of this piece are varnished in crystal clear ultra uv resistant non-yellowing 'Art Resin' self-leveling epoxy specifically designed to ensure the preservation and protection of both the woodwork and the integrity of these colors! This also makes the piece washable. The piece comes ready to hang with it's own "French Cleat" for quick, easy and super secure hanging. Dimensions (48"H x 24"L x .5W) Wood Type: Spalted Maple
