Classically trained as an artist in Spain, I enjoy painting with various media—oil, watercolors, and acrylics—although I am primarily an oil painter. My compositions range from larger format landscapes to still lifes, often inspired by travel, seasonal fruits and vegetables, the Dutch Masters, or the Spanish painters Sorolla, Velazquez and Picasso. Light, shadow, contrast, color and perspective with a focus on detail all feature prominently in my work. Bridging the past with contemporary style, my new MODERN Series integrates these classic oil painting attributes with semi-abstract acrylic silhouettes, muted colors and drawings, lending the canvases a compelling texture, balance and structure to create a new and refreshing contemporary style of painting. These museum-quality works—juxtaposing oils against acrylics on the same canvas, colorful fruit against colorless empty vessels—transition centuries of art history. They are sophisticated yet understated, classic but modern.
