This unique flower bud vase/sculptural piece started on the wheel and was further shaped by hand, giving it a unique asymmetrical form Handmade handles were attached to exaggerate the profile of the form. The opening at the top measures 1.5 inches across. Hand-painted black lines on
a matted white glaze were added on the exterior surface and a white Shino glaze lines the interior of the vase. The piece was soda fired.
Soda Firing is a method of firing where a soda solution is sprayed into the kiln, creating a glaze that deposits on the clay pieces. The unique surface and coloring of soda fired pottery is achieved through a combination of choice of clay bodies, slips, glazes, and the atmospheric conditions in the kiln during the firing process.

I make functional pottery with the aim of bringing beauty and pleasure into a person’s daily life. My pottery usually starts on the wheel and is further embellished by hand. My objective is to have every piece I make reflect my aesthetic and the unpredictable nature of the soda firing process. My goal is to create work that honors and continues the long tradition of handmade pottery.
