I think you can guess why we named this lamp featuring a “big wheel” — or a crank or whatever — looks like the thing you turn in a disaster movie to try to shut off the water, but to no avail — “Proud Mary”. The metal glazed ceramic base swirls about like water below; the shade combines silver and yellow block screen print patterns.
All "Empire" lamps include new sockets, plugs and wiring. Every lamp is a unique combination of hand-made ceramics and found objects produced in our Northern CA studios. The shades use heavy acid-free rag papers and are preserved with UV and moisture-lock archival protection.

Imaginary Lamp Empire is a business run by filmmaker and visual artist Mark Taylor, who lives and works in San Francisco and Mokelumne Hill, CA, a gold rush town located in the Sierra Foothills. All lamps are unique originals made by hand. Lamp shades are sewn-paper collages; lamp bodies combine found objects with hand-made ceramics created by artist James Aarons. All shades use heavy acid-free rag papers and are preserved with UV and moisture-lock archival protection. All lamps include new sockets, plugs, switches and wiring.
