My classical training as an artist came out in this one- madonna and child, how many times did I study the masters and their use of composition and line. Line quality, edge control, tonal balance- I stand on the shoulders of some of the greats. I made this portrait using a prior sketch I made in Borneo, but after returning from Amsterdam where I stood in front of Ver Meers, Rembrandts, Van Goghs, Corots and others. Safe to say that both visits inspired me here. This is available as a limited edition Giclee'.

I've been a professional artist for close to five decades. All of my work begins in the field, or in the Bush, observing and sketching my subjects in their native habitat. My sketches move to paper ,or canvas layered with venetian plaster to give the piece movement and depth. My art is always hand drawn with pencil providing the base for the finished piece. Much of my work is then colored with charcoal dust, charcoal, watercolor, and oil, applied over a period of time in layers. My work is exhibited in galleries across the United States, Europe, and Africa
